i saw this in the news paper today.

busted a gut laughing.. reuters.. washington (reuters) - the white house was bombarded with questions on monday about why it failed to go public with news that vice president dick cheney shot a fellow quail hunter until the day after the accident.. the victim, harry whittington, 78, took pellets in his cheek, neck and chest when cheney fired his shotgun while aiming for a bird during a hunt in southern texas on saturday, and was in stable condition at a corpus christi hospital.. whittington was moved out of intensive care on monday afternoon but peter banko, administrator of christus spohn hospital, said he did not know when he would be discharged.. "his condition continues to be stable ... it's not critical, it's not serious.

he's in stable condition, doing extremely well," banko said.. the accident happened about 5:30 p.m. on a private ranch about 200 miles south of san antonio, where the vice president has hunted previously.

Do you really think that DC will be convicted of manslaughter if any thing happens to this poor old man? Ever hear of presidential pardons? Meanwhile as an Ohioan, I have to do gymnastic leaps through flaming rings of red tape and bureaucracy to get a concealed carry license. Something is seriously wrong with this picture.

i believe it was paragraph 17, the one that spoke about the faithful slave and how there are those who wish to be "independent" and that this is wrong.

two comments came, both from elders.

elder 1: so what the paragraph is telling us is that instead of developing an independent spirit we actually want to be developing a spirit of dependece upon god's organization and the spiritual food they provide.

I was in a hospital waiting room recently. My father was having surgery. A “brother” from the hospital liaison committee (HLC) was there for my mother. Just by chance another “brother” happed to see this HLC guy reading his WT and decided to come over to introduce himself.

The two of them hit the ground running chatting and talking JW lingo. You know how JDubs do. Well this guy proceeds to tell a story about a “brother” that he knows and how he’s such a great guy and he does such and such and that he’s “ex-military” and that is a great background for a JDub because it teaches one to accept orders. They went on to comment about how accepting orders without question is such a good trait for JDubs to possess.

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I still can’t believe it. Two grown men standing there talking about how great it is to be mindless. To accept what a stranger tells them as truth without question. Do they even realize what they were saying?

Your posts reminded me of this. It’s certainly mind boggling to me. Of course years ago this wouldn’t have stood out as abnormal to me at all.

What is the big deal about Valentines Day?

i don't quite understand all the "hype" and the endless questions about what my s/o is going to do/get me for the "big day".

i think diamonds are ugly, i don't like gold, flowers die and if want chocolate i'll buy it myself thanks.

honestly what i want for valentines day is for him to start being financially responsible and pick up after himself.

Sounds to me like you should get a job with Hallmark. LOL. My wife doesn't expect anything but she loves Valentine's day. She made personalized cards for my son to take to kindergarten. She alos made rice krispy treats on a stick all decorated in red with heart wrapping paper.

We're going out this weekend for a work social function but we've got a sitter for the kids and were going to get a room at the hotel. So we should have a good evening.

does wt loose ground in usa, so thy try to "convert" other parts where people are not informed about jw and wt and probably coz of not knowing english, does not have access to ex-jw information?

It's a lot harder for third world countries to log on line and google JW's considering that they dont even have running water let alone electricity.

Why can't you just move on?

that's what my wife said to me the night before last.

i was making an observation about the way my family and other jws in my life are constantly trying to get me to go to a meeting or read an awake, but they never want to sit down and address the questions i have raised to them.

she then asked me why i can't just move on.

Seriously though…..this is why one cannot just “move on”! When I read this thread with all of your stories, the aggravation and the heartache, I can’t help but become enraged.

I really feel for those of us (ex-cult members, in case my wife’s reading) who are married to someone that still trapped on the inside. I am very fortunate and I can really appreciate what I have when I read stores such as your's. I met and married my “worldly” wife long after I left the borg. I wish that I could give you some advice but, really, I’m in no position to do so.

The only person that I have those inevitable conversations with is my mother. We get into it down and dirty. She gets mad at me and I get mad at her. When we’ve had enough, we go our separate ways and usually we'll take a break from one another to cool off. It’s not like I have to worry about divorce and what that will do to me both emotionally and financially. The worst that my mother can do is to shun me and I'm prepared for that. The advantage that I have over others in similar situations is that my father is not a JDub and therefore even if my mother should choose to shun me I’ll still have contact with her through him.

You’re right though…the best thing you can do is to lay low for a while and lead by example. One thing to always keep in mind is that if she views your opinions as threatening that she’ll shut down and probably not listen to anything you have to say. When presenting a point that you know she’ll take exception too, you’re going to have to put on the kid gloves and proceed with caution.
